A COMPOSITION PENNED and donated by Barbadian song writer, producer and arranger John Roett has been adopted as the official song for the island’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.
In making the announcement today, Permanent Secretary Special Assignment, 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Secretariat, Gabrielle Springer, said the 21 entries submitted late last year were unsuccessful in gaining the nod of approval from the judges.
“Following our announcement on March 4, Mr Roett, who is the producer of the song Barbados Will Always Be Home, approached the Secretariat with an offer to compose a song to be used in official programming, advertising and at national and public events during the year of celebrations,” she explained.
Springer further noted that Roett, who offered to write the song as his gift to the nation, would manage and produce the recording which will feature several of Barbados’ leading artistes. The Secretariat will meet the technical costs of production.
The Permanent Secretary said that there would be an official launch for the release of the song, which is expected to be completed later this month.
